Daily Soup / / / Post Classical School Girl

No it’s not the 70’s and 80’s with Kelly Kapowski or Molly Ringwald, it’s not the 90’s with Clueless and Britney Spears, it’s not the thousands either with awkward crop tops, terrible cornrows, and teenage heart throbs, it’s a new era of teenage-girl-ism. The spring look book from WILDFOX, inspired by Clueless, reminded me that no matter how much we wish that we could go back to a time where wearing neon was acceptable and valley girls were appreciated - but we all know that that will not be happening anytime soon (I’m talking to you justice). I realized that we are, in history terms, in the post classical age of the general teenage school girl. Let’s face it, only so many movies can be made about the shy girl behind the locker, braces, and 4-eyes becoming the talk of the town and getting the star quarterback, the time is over for these cliches.

How To / / / Emphasize the eyes

Take it from these runway queens : bold eyes can make the look! Personally I love the pink lashes but a nice smoky eye or pop of color will do. Just remember to take the blush and toner easy or else you’ll end up looking like a kardashian - which is ok if you’re goin for that….

How to / / / Silhouettes

Don’t get hung up on matchy matchy outfits - trying to color block and whatnot - just stick with the classic black and white if you are in a fashion flash (btw check out my new “key ingredients” page to get the 411 on the linguistics of style). When wearing a B&W, one must always be cautious of the silhouette. The silhouette is everything in a simple look, because there is no color there must be shape. Master this by either appealing to your natural curves with a tight fitting piece of Saran-wrap labeled “dress” or by creating a new waist with a cupcake / B-line skirt. Since I have no curves and my mother believes that mini dresses are the devil, I’ll go with the second. Although, I wish I could pull of that immaculate high cut black dress that Tuula Vintage has, too bad I’m not an Australian blonde bombshell. The key to a simple look is to not over do it with styling and to wear only the best, none of that Target or Forever 21 crap that only lasts as many days as the amount of dollars it is worth.

The Honest Toddler

Daily Soup / / / Littluns

I grew up watching the 1989 film “Look Who’s Talking”. You know the one with the babies that narrated their live and what not. I thought that all babies were like that.

WELL I WAS RIGHT.

The Honest Toddler is a blog, and now book, written from a toddler’s perspective about the everyday hardships of the typical suburban 2 to about 4 year old. With a 7 step guide on how to get kicked out of preschool, warnings on new roommates, notes to mothers, and an open letter to Juice CEO’s everywhere, you will be prepared for whatever life throws at you. If you don’t believe that it rates a 16 on the 1-10 hilarious scale here is an excerpt from the recent “Birthday Party” post :: “To say that the party was off the chain doesn’t even begin to describe; this party broke the chain in half. This party melted the chain down and using precious metals made an even crazier chain. It started at 2PM, unheard of in the toddler world where events are usually either pre or post-nap. But the chosen time was intentional. The host wanted to send a message: No lightweights.”

He didn’t choose the toddler life, the toddler life chose him.

Daily Soup / / / My Fashion Icon
I keep on seeing these posts about everyone’s “fashion icon” from the past, but they are by people who are already icons! I guess everyone has to have a role model, so Edna will be mine. Mod, posh, chic - label her whatever you like but she is most definitely my favorite Disney character of all time.
